Devolver Digital and System Era say ‘I Do’

Eight long years ago Devolver made a terrible mistake. They almost published Astroneer!

Imagine that. Sadly, the award-winning Seattle-based developer System Era went on to find extraordinary fame and success without them, and the rest is history.

Until now.

System Era Joins the Devolver Family

Today, after almost a decade of mutual admiration and friendship, Devolver Digital and System Era declare their undying love for one another in the only way they know how: by turning down the lights, turning up the heat, and forming a strategic business relationship.

Back when Devolver and System Era were just a glint in the video game industry’s eye, both teams vowed to build companies that reflected their spirit of independence. They placed passion and creativity proudly at the forefront of their businesses, and quickly found success. Now, they have new ambitions that they felt could be explored better, together.

Brendan Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of System Era, said: “We've always seen Devolver's banner as a mark of quality. Their developer-first ethos has paved the way for some of the boldest and most creative ideas to thrive, and we're thrilled to be joining a merry band of like-minded people where our games will get the support they need within a culture they love."

The System Era fans know and love will continue doing what they do best: making cool video games. In fact, some of the team has already been working on something new and exciting. The Astroneer community can also rest assured that the 2024 roadmap is well on its way, so stay tuned! Astroneer rules.

An unnamed Devolver Digital employee was overheard muttering: “I still can’t believe we didn’t sign Astroneer.”

Reader, they married them.

Brendan Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of System Era, said:

"Devolver and System Era have been mutual admirers for a long time. We've always seen Devolver's banner as a mark of quality, but they also represent an  approach to developing and publishing games that is unique in the industry. Their developer-first orientation lets bold and unorthodox ideas thrive. We're  thrilled to be joining into a confederation of like-minded people where System Era's games will get the support needed to reach global audiences, and our developers will continue to work within the culture they love."

Devolver Direct Recap: Volv-E Reveals Baby Steps, Human Fall Flat 2 And More!

Give Him A Big Hand

Following today’s flawless Volv-E presentation, Devolver Digital is proud to take credit for two brand new independently developed video games: the hilarious Baby Steps from Gabe Cuzillo, Maxi Boch and Bennett Foddy, and the jaw-dropping Human Fall Flat 2 from No Brakes Games.

Alongside them, Croteam’s The Talos Principle 2 solved the question of what it will look like by showing the world what it looks like in Volv-E’s world exclusive gameplay reveal, while the magical sandbox of Galvanic Games’ upcoming Wizard With A Gun dropped a brand new single-player demo on Steam. Thanks Volv-E!

But that’s not all! Volvy’s hype-filled pre-show featured the exciting release date announcement of SLUDGE LIFE 2, along with an exclusive standalone Steam demo that offers up a short slice of what happens to GHOST and the crew before BIG MUD "sells out".

Volv-E provides a breathtaking look into the simplicity of creativity, demonstrating his frictionless use of generative algorithms and deep-learning techniques to autonomously create video games without any direct input from developers at all!

Learn more about all of the upcoming games, see the trailers, watch the presentation again, and grab a big handful of classic Volvy swag at devolverdirect.com

[EDIT]

Following shareholder feedback, Volv-E has been placed on indefinite hiatus.

Terra Nil springs forth on PC and Netflix on March 28

Terra Nil, the eagerly anticipated ecological strategy game from Free Lives and Devolver Digital, will finally bloom on PC and Netflix on March 28.

In this chill, meditative twist on the city-builder genre you use advanced eco-tech to transform a barren, desolate wasteland into a thriving, vibrant ecosystem. Purify soil, clean oceans, plant trees, reintroduce wildlife—then recycle everything and move on, leaving no trace you were ever there.

Across 6-8 blissful hours, tackle a variety of replayable procedurally generated biomes—including volcanic glaciers, ruined cities, and tropical islands—each with their own uniquely challenging climate, geology, flora, and fauna. Then when you've completed all 4 regions, challenge yourself further with unlockable alternate levels.

Create rainforests, swamps, rivers, and more, and watch as the dry, cracked surface of a dead world suddenly explodes with life and colour.

Terra Nil is a peaceful, beautiful, and deeply satisfying experience, and you can begin your journey of wasteland reclamation on mobile (via Netflix) and PC on March 28.

Pre-order now and you'll get the Deluxe Edition of the game—which includes the soundtrack and a digital art book—at the Standard Edition price.

Beginning with pre-orders and continuing after launch, Free Lives will be donating a portion of the profits from sales of Terra Nil on Steam to the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

"From the very beginning of development we've wanted Terra Nil to be able to have a real-world impact," says Sam Alfred, the game's co-creator and lead designer. "After much searching, we found the perfect partner to make this happen in the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Free Lives will be donating a portion of the profits of each sale of Terra Nil on Steam to the Endangered Wildlife Trust to help them in their efforts to preserve and restore ecosystems in the real world."

Devolver Digital Publisher Sale on Steam Terrible Lesson in Impulse Control

The Devolver Digital Publisher Sale has taken over Steam with obscenely generous discounts on Devolver Digital games, even the ones you promised your concerned parents that you would never buy. Now is your chance to correct the wrongs of the past by purchasing each and every Devolver Digital game at a fraction of their intended price.

This year’s unprecedented annual Devolver Digital sale features brand new games from the label’s eclectic roster including Shadow Warrior 3 and Weird West at a tremendous 40% and 25% off respectively. Both games have also received mouth-watering updates; Shadow Warrior 3 introduces additional weapon skins and a brand new Hero Mode, while Weird West’s Snake-In-My-Boot Update includes new mechanics, overhauled systems and a whole host of fixes, improvements and extra polish.

Elsewhere, the award-winning and critically acclaimed 2021 releases Inscryption (30% off), Death’s Door (40% off) and Loop Hero (67% off) are available at similarly award-winning and critically acclaimed discounts, while VR sensation Tentacular has plunged its price by 20%. Even Hotline Miami is on sale, because incredibly there are still people in the world that haven’t played it. Very unhappy people.

Consumers can deposit their preferred currency in exchange for digital goods during the Devolver Digital Publisher Weekend on Steam from May 5 – May 16.
