Nearly thirty years ago, a group of childhood friends got together to start Croteam from a small garage in Zagreb. The fledgeling studio was built around creative experimentation, pushing technical boundaries, and a trust in one another that would span decades. The team dabbled in soccer / football games before putting together a dazzling tech demo that would eventually become Serious Sam and change the path of the studio forever. But it was a struggle to sign the Serious Sam demo with a publisher and only one label - Gathering of Developers - showed interest and support. That support blossomed into friendship and respect which would eventually reconnect Croteam with some of the Gathering of Developers team when they later helped found Devolver Digital.
A decade ago Devolver Digital was just getting started and looking for its first project to partner on in the emerging digital distribution world. Similarly, Croteam was on the search for a partner it could trust to help them bring their beloved franchise back to prominence with the upcoming Serious Sam 3. And like that, the next big Serious Sam game brought old partners back together and forged a decade of friendship and dedication.
Since then Croteam and Devolver Digital have partnered on dozens of games - from the frantic Serious Sam series to the award-winning The Talos Principle across PC, consoles, VR and mobile platforms. Croteam and Devolver Digital have been dating for so long that we decided to go ahead and just get married.
Devolver has acquired Croteam...or maybe Croteam has acquired Devolver...who could really know at this point in the relationship. What’s certain is that our future together is ultra exciting with new projects like The Talos Principle 2, more Serious Sam games, and original IP from Croteam and the Croteam Incubator studios. Croteam will of course keep total creative freedom and Devolver Digital gets to keep making dumb recommendations that Croteam just ignores - we prefer it that way.
Both companies are thrilled to share this news and hope that you’re as excited about our future together as we are - it’s going to be a lot of fun. Also, buy Serious Sam 4 on Steam or Stadia. It’s got a chainsaw rocket launcher.

Developer Vitali Kirpu (Pixel Piracy) and publisher Devolver Digital have released Ragnorium, a challenging ‘planet recolonization simulator’ spanning eons of time into Steam Early Access.
Ragnorium tasks players with leading a small group of cloned colonists on their pioneering journey into the harsh outer reaches of space, building a self-sustaining society while attempting to survive an oncoming Holy Crusade.
The Steam Early Access launch introduces players to the base game loop of creating cloned colonists, preparing the dropships with cargo, and building out a base-level colony with a wide variety of materials and equipment from the first era of technology. Over time, new eras of technology will be added bringing new materials and equipment into the fold.
Ragnorium had been quietly available in ‘Earliest Access’ on Steam and only accessible through a direct link and not searchable on Steam. This two month run in a private release window allowed a few thousand players to test and provide feedback for updates to visuals, sound design, UI, and overall presentation before today’s debut to the wider Steam audience.
The launch into Steam Early Access marks the beginning of a content roadmap that will include more colonist types, planet maps, items, resources, characters and boss encounters. Developer Vitali Kirpu’s iterative design process lets Ragnorium benefit from rapid feedback and guidance from the community about the overall direction of the game and its mechanics - something that helped produce significant changes in the private Earliest Access phase.
Discover more about Ragnorium at ragnorium.com and follow @ragnorium on Twitter for more insights into cloning, space colonization and our thoughts on utopian interstellar societies.
After a smarmy knight and wizard steal her spell ingredients, a mild-mannered witch who transforms into a flying eyeball of vengeance sets off on a treacherous journey in Witcheye, the old-school platform adventure from the team behind viral hit The Great Gastsby for NES, now available on Nintendo Switch and PC!
Released last summer on Apple Arcade, Witcheye uses a fantastically innovative touch & motion control system that gives players unparalleled control over the hero's...eyeball...on her colourful adventure. Now with Joycon integration, players can bounce off of enemies and dodge hazards in six vibrant worlds using a variety of control options.
You'll guide the witch through 50+ levels, each containing something completely unique: tricky new enemies, mysterious new environments, and puzzling new secrets. These elements are brought to life with colourful, clean pixel art and a lively, head-bobbing original soundtrack.
Designer Peter Malamud Smith was the co-creator (with Charlie Hoey) of the viral hit The Great Gatsby For NES, and creator of the well-received mobile action puzzlers Satellina and Satellina Zero.

- Blood, Dirt, and Nipples in Glorious VR -
Independent developer Free Lives (Broforce, Genital Jousting) and virtual game publisher Devolver Digital (also Broforce, Genital Jousting) are thrilled to celebrate the launch of VR sensation GORN for PlayStation VR!
GORN is a ludicrously violent VR gladiator simulator featuring a unique, fully physics driven combat engine where combatants creatively execute their most violent colosseum fantasies in virtual reality. The acclaimed VR game entered Early Access in 2017 to high praise and huge success despite players' propensity to smash screens and tear down light fixtures in the heat of battle. One player even dislocated their knee cap. Damage to personal property notwithstanding, GORN went on to become one of the top ten VR games in sales and user reviews on Steam!
Free Lives spent over two years adding everything from new weapons and opponents to a custom language within the GORN universe. That last one is a joke that frankly just got out of hand until they had a full language and a five-track hip-hop EP in said language. And now it’s on PlayStation VR!
“What we do in VR echoes in eternity,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker.
For more information on GORN visit gornvr.com and follow @Free_Lives on Twitter. Also, buy GORN because if you don’t what was the point of all this work?
